Al Bell is an award winning desiger whose work spans commercial and fine arts. He studied Design for Print in Glasgow and has long worked in the arts sector with clients such as Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow School of Art, Scottish Ballet and Glasgow International Jazz Festival.
His principle theme of landscape is expressed in various media including painting, print and photography and his graphic print work has been exhibited most recently with Lapland (Glasgow Art Fair) and with Graphic Art Collective in Wasps Studios and the Panoptican.
The Tiny Landscapes series is an exploration of the 'realness' of landscape photography. ' The moment we commit a landscape to film or pixel we remove it from our everyday environment and into the realms of memory. Landscape photographs that we respond well to have captured the essence of a place, the photos that simply record leave us cold. Composition, cropping, printing/ retouching techniques all push the photo further from 'reality' and in the end reflect the way we imagine that place to be. So these images are 'fabriscapes', photographic montages from the imagination, places I'd love to go if they were real. Are they landscape photographs even though these places don't exist? That's completely up to you to decide!" Website, text, images and designs all © Panik Designs 2003 |
