Artists Statement: My work explores her interest in movement, space and negative space. I have sought to express and explore this through the manipulation of silver and 18ct yellow gold wire. I have always been inspired by organic forms, namely vines and plants, which I have studied at the Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh and Glasgow. More recently this has developed to include manmade structures, for example the monkey house at Edinburgh Zoo. This development may seem odd at first, but when we consider that manmade enclosures are a replication of nature, the link becomes a natural progression. I enjoy exploiting the contrasting colours of silver, oxidised silver and 18ct yellow gold wire, and I have incorporated this in most of my work. The cascading quality of the wire links I have created fascinates me. I am able to change the space and negative space created by the piece, not only by the wire links, but as they move with the wearer, the space around the piece moves also.
