Andrew Eastwood graduated from Glasgow School of Art in the summer of 2006. Artist's Statement: I am interested in the narrative potential of representational sculpture, particularly the idea that clothing can carry information about the personality of its wearer and that it can simultaneously emphasise and conceal specific parts of the body. Such items as jackets, shoes and handbags also have a sculptural quality that translates well into ceramic decorative objects. With these objects, I aim for a veracity that approaches trompe-l'oeil and might provoke a moment of mistaken identity, in which terracotta is taken for leather or bone china for fabric. I work in materials ranging from terracotta to white earthenware and bone china. The shoes are slip cast from earthenware and are hand finished, then glazed with low-fire glazes. It should be noted that the shoes are not intended for use with food or drink. Website, text, images and designs all © Panik Designs 2003 |
