I am first and foremost a painter. The main focus of my work is in this medium, however I also make three dimensional work, I write poetry and songs.
My work is concerned with the struggle of the individual to get to grips with personal identity. My material is often semi-autobiographical stemming from my own cultural and social influences, but the themes are universal. I am interested in the inward dynamic on the person of the forces which come to play during the course of a so-called 'up-bringing'. But my research also covers exploration of the triangular dynamics of feelings, thoughts and behaviour. The pull between good versus evil within the individual and the social environment is also a feature of my work. I have pursued other themes, working intuitively as a response to various stimuli on creative writing courses where I have worked under the tuition of both Danny O’Rourke and Liz Lochhead in Scotland and of the writer Cristophe Fiat during a term spent studying at Quimper School of Art in France. I have also studied Artists' book making with Jenny Smith. Website, text, images and designs all © Panik Designs 2003 |
