The pictures in this exhibition are about Australia and were painted whilst Ewen lived there. He returned to Scotland from Australia last year after living there for five years.

The series of 'Reefheads' are inspired by surfers and surf culture. With it's macho brovado and it's great skill and bravery when done well surfing is a big part of the Aussie subconscious. Surfers spend their time riding on, avoiding and celebrating the hidden depths, Ewen has tried to do the same in these pictures.

Ewen began to make pictures with eucalyptus leaves because of their beautiful shape, surface and texture. They are part of Australia's uniqueness. He started collecting the leaves and painting on them became a natural progression for him. The leaf pictures are mostly about Australian landscape and wildlife. The Leaf Reefheads are a joining of the land and sea elements of these Australian paintings.

Born in Scotland in 1960 Ewen studied art in Glasgow and New York he also works in set design for film and TV.
