When I paint, I become energised and invigorated. My passion for luscious colour and texture makes me strive to achieve strong values from my colours and compositions. I love the physical nature of applying paint, be it in a glaze, in thick daubs, with my fingers or in a dramatic sweep. The pursuit of colour balance is exhilarating; the thrill of an exact and brilliant zing of paint, joyful. I paint outdoors whenever possible, revelling in the challenge of changing light, and when I paint still life, I aim to bring it alive. Drawing the human form is an exacting discipline that informs every other aspect of my art. Painting forms an essential part of my life. I live and work in Dunblane and have received tuition over the years from artists Peter McLaren, Peter Russell and Greer Ralston.
