James has worked as a photographer with the Herald newspaper for almost thirty years. He had previously honed his skills with a local newspaper. James has worked in features, sport and news covering major events all over the world including the Lockerbie disaster (many Herald readers will remember the iconic image of the cockpit on the front page), rugby and football world cup finals, open golf championships and Wimbledon. He has won numerous national awards including: Scottish Press Photographer of the Year; Scottish Sports Photographer of the Year; British Regional Photographer of the Year; British Regional Sports Photographer of the year and many awards for individual photographs eg Royal Picture of the Year.
