'Living within a landscape like Skye, it's inevitable that my work is influenced by it. I'm interested in how our presence here alters and affects the land we live on.'

The work I make, how it stands on a shelf, the space it occupies, helps me to make sense of my own place in the world. I try to work by allowing my inner feeling about a piece to direct what I do to it, leaving my rational mind to solve technical issues.

The pots are made by coiling and press moulding. A methodical process which allows the form to develop as the piece progresses. Scraping reveals textures in the clay, which are developed with applications of slip.

'Most of my work is raku fired, with little or no glaze. I love the textures of naked clay. I am beginning to introduce more colour by exploring the possibilities of low fired oxidised earthenware. I use iron oxide from an algal bloom in a local spring which gives the work a physical connection to the landscape.'
