Steven Higginson

2001 - Graduated with a HND in Art and Design from George Street School of Art and Design, Dumfries. 2004 - Graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of art with BA (Hons) Fine Art. Awarded the Aidan Threlfall Scholarship Award 2004 from the Goldsmiths Company, London which I spent in Paris, Madrid, Venice and Rome. The Tradition of Caravaggio, Velazquez and Manet is strong in my painting, their use of sharp light, complex composition and intense use of colour and contrast is apparent in my work. Like Manet my work is a response to the world around me, still life, landscape and portraiture all appear in my work and this variety of subject matter helps my painting evolve in significant ways.
